Our Mission

The mission of the North Kingstown Police Department is to ensure that police services are delivered in an effective and efficient manner - providing a quality of life for all residents and visitors that is free from the threat or fear of crime impacting their lives. This mission is accomplished by employing contemporary methods and techniques while remaining ever vigilant of the need to operate with the utmost regard for customer service.

Department Description

The North Kingstown Police Department is commanded by the Chief of Police and is currently staffed by 56 sworn personnel and various civilian support staff. Our Operations Division is commanded by a Captain who oversees four squads. Each squad consists of two supervisors - Lieutenant and a Sergeant, and six patrol officers. The patrol officers work one of two 12-hour shifts, starting at 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. or 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Two squads are assigned to each shift, providing 24-hour 7 days a week of coverage to the Town of North Kingstown.

The remaining police personnel are assigned to the Administrative Division or the Detective Division. The Administrative Division is overseen by the Administrative Captain whose staff consists of an Administrative Lieutenant, two training officers, and a technical services officer. The Detective Division consisting of six detectives including a Detective Lieutenant Commander. Additionally, one patrol officer is assigned as a School Resource Officer to the North Kingstown High School. The Prosecution Office is staffed by a Detective Sergeant.

Civilian support staff includes four full-time dispatchers (one assigned to each of the four squads), three secretaries, one clerk, and one custodian. The Animal Control and Harbormaster staff include one Animal Warden, one part-time Assistant Animal Warden, a part-time Harbormaster, part-time Harbor Clerk, and two part-time Assistant Harbormasters.
