EXEMPTIONS

The Town of North Kingstown offers several exemptions.  All exemptions are assessment based and reflect a deduction to the current assessment of your property value.  You may apply for as many exemptions as you qualify for. The net assessed value after all qualifying exemptions are applied is then used to calculate the taxes based on the current rate.

To qualify for an exemption you must be owner of record and occupy the residence for which the exemption is to be applied as of December 31st to qualify for the following year's tax roll.

Applications must be received in the Assessor's Office by March 15th of the year the exemption is to be applied.  You must apply in person.

Qualifications and requirements differ for each exemption.  They are listed under each  exemption.

All applications require proof of identity such as driver's license or passport as well as any other documents listed under the individual applications.

The Homestead, Flat Elderly, Veteran and Blind exemptions require a ONE TIME application.

The Elderly Income and  Total Disabled exemptions require and ANNUAL application as these are based on age and income earned each year.

Exemption credit may be listed as a tax dollar credit off the bill amount owed or the equivalent assessment dollar deduction off of the value based on the current tax rate.  For example:  $450 tax dollar credit off of amount owed = $40,760 assessment dollar deduction @ $11.04 tax rate
