Ordinance Requirements
To ensure safe and efficient water use, all in-ground sprinkler systems in the Town of North Kingstown must comply with the following requirements:
- Backflow Protection – All systems must be equipped with a backflow prevention device.
- Permit Requirement – A building permit is required for installation of any in-ground sprinkler system.
- Rain Switch – Systems must include a rain switch device to automatically shut off during rainfall.
- Pressure Reducing Valve (PRV) – The water distribution system must include a PRV set at or below 65 psi.
- Flow Sensor Sprinkler Valve – Sprinkler heads must deliver no more than 5 gallons per minute (gpm) at 60 psi.
