Fire Prevention Division

The primary responsibilities of the Fire Marshal include inspections of businesses and residences, investigation of fires, enforcement of local fire codes and laws, risk management, and public fire safety awareness for the Town of North Kingstown.

Inspection

The North Kingstown Fire Marshal is responsible for inspections of both residential and commercial properties. These include home sale compliance inspections, business license inspections, rough and final construction inspections, and any other fire safety inspection required by NFPA or State Law.

Fire Investigation

The Fire Marshal is tasked with the investigation of fire scenes to determine the cause and origin of a fire. The investigation process helps document the incident, adds to our knowledge of potential hazards, and helps determine whether the fire was accidental or malicious in nature.

Plan Review

Proper application and enforcement of State and Local laws and Ordinances helps ensure safer, less fire prone structures.  The Fire Marshal is responsible for review and approval of building plans for all new construction and additions to and/or remodeling of existing structures.

Fire Education and Prevention

One of the most important aspects of the Marshal’s job is education. Exhibiting vehicles and equipment at local businesses, school programs, open house events and other activities are all designed to raise awareness and educate the public on fire safety issues.
