NKIT Operations
North Kingstown Information Technology (NKIT) builds and operates the town's enterprise telecommunications and computing assets. This enables town government to better manage information and deliver services to constituents more efficiently.
NKIT consists of a number of programs that fall under telecommunications technologies and computing services. Some of these programs serve town government as a whole, while others serve specific departments. NKIT also has the first inter-municipal technology shared services organization in the State of Rhode Island.
Telecommunications Technologies
Data Network Services
Provide a seamless data network connecting all of the town's technology assets and departments while providing them Internet access as well. NKIT also provides internal data networking to many departments.
Telephone System Services
Operates and maintains the town's private telephone network and related systems such as voicemail and automated attendants.
Telecommunications Applications
NKIT administers telecommunications programs that provide services like interactive voice response (IVR), digital recording, IP paging and similar applications which support the town's telecommunications functions.
Application Services
Works with departments to ensure that applications are acquired or developed and implemented consistent with the town’s technology environment. NKIT supports all enterprise and departmental applications. For example Public Safety Dispatch systems, ERP system for Town, Video applications, Web applications, all online requests systems, recreation registration, etc.
Computing Services
Messaging
NKIT implements, operates and maintains the town’s mission critical email, archiving, and Smartphone integration infrastructure. NKIT also maintains the data storage infrastructure for all departments.
NKIT Data Center-Enterprise Computing
NKIT operates a data center facility for the town. Operations activities include monitoring, enterprise applications support, and escalation call-out. NKIT also supports the technology for physical security, environmental controls, uninterrupted power supplies, power distribution units and cooling room units. NKIT implements, operates and maintains the town's high performance, mission critical, 24 / 7 enterprise physical and virtual servers, storage, backup/disaster recovery, databases, and operating systems.
Desktop Computing
NKIT implements and maintains the desktop, laptop, printer hardware and software for all town departments; 16 agencies in 20 facilities. In addition, Activities include standards setting, policy, all trouble resolutions, deployment of all hardware and software, security, image management, and printer management.
Service Desk
NKIT is the point of contact for all IT technical support for town employees.
