Associates of the North Kingstown Parades Committee welcome area residents to take part in a special ceremony at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, December 7 to pay homage to those lost in the Japanese air attacks on Oahu and Pearl Harbor that took place on that same date in 1941.
The event will take place at "Anchor Park" in the Municipal Parking Lot on Brown Street in Wickford and will conclude with the casting of floral arrangements onto the waters of Wickford Harbor from the deck of the fire boat of the North Kingstown Fire Department.
The site of the commemoration will be spotlighted by the free flying flags of the states that gave their names to the nine battleships that were present at Pearl Harbor on that day.
The 1994 Congressional legislation that put National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day into place calls for all flags to fly at half-staff this day.
